Freedom

There are countless ideas and philosophies from countless voices that seek to define freedom, and the means of obtaining and maintaining it. The men that we call America's founding fathers, by the grace of God, set up a system under which we have enjoyed political freedom for a long time. And, political freedom is the best way to live in this world, politically speaking. Those men were able to set such a system into place because they acknowledged their need for the Lord to guide their hands. They understood, and emphatically said so, that God alone gave them victory and prosperity. They understood what many of us have forgotten. Political freedom is worthless in the hands of those enslaved to sin. In John 8:34-36 Jesus teaches: "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." Every one of us needs to understand and not forget that the Word of the Lord is final. His authority is final. Satan himself reports to God, gives account to Him and asks His permission (Job 1:6-12 and 2:1-6). If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!

Freedom is not in the powerful man whose master is his own lusts. Freedom is not in the insatiable mouth of the malcontent who perpetually demands what is "owed" him.

Freedom is in Noah building an ark against the current of the entire world. Freedom is in the Hebrew family who feared the Lord, put the blood of the lamb on their doorposts and on the lentil and walked out of Egypt, following a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Freedom is in eighty-five year-old Caleb going into the dangerous hill country and taking the land that the Lord promised to Him. Freedom is in David running to face the giant Goliath in the name of the Lord. Freedom is in King Hezekiah on his knees in the temple before God, refusing to surrender to the blasphemous Assyrian king. Freedom is in Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego repeatedly choosing death rather than unfaithfulness. Freedom is in Jesus being the first one to show up to the place of His arrest. Freedom is in Paul and Silas singing in chains. Freedom is in the child of God who will never bow down to another, who will never surrender.

"The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death."-Romans 8:2
