A Few

The third chapter of Revelation begins with Jesus warning the church in Sardis to repent, because they were "dead".  In verse two, He urged them to "strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die", indicating that they had been doing what was right, but then turned away.  These Words are, and should be, piercing to the heart of the modern American church, as many congregations have tolerated false teaching, and have adopted the philosophies of the dying culture around us.  Many have abandoned the Word of the one God in an effort to stay culturally relevant, and to seek the approval of those who hate our Lord, Jesus.  Instead of fighting the delusion and saving their lives, many have joined them, and now need to be saved themselves. Verses four and five though, quicken the hope that lives in the hearts of those who have remained faithful to God and to His Word.  Jesus says:  "But you have a few names in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white; for they are worthy.  He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels."  I want the Lord to point to me and say, " but there are a few names..."  When a sin-weary soul has finally had enough, and with his last hope he looks around for truth, I want to be recognizable because of the unsoiled garments that God has clothed His faithful with.  I want to walk with my Lord in white, in the righteous acts that He has prepared for me to walk in (Revelation 19:8, Ephesians 2:10).  When the repentant soul cries out for salvation and needs only to hear the Word to believe (Romans 10:17), I want to be there.  I want God Himself to be able to call me "worthy".  Can you even imagine that?
