And I Searched for a Man

In Ezekiel 22:30, the Lord said:  "And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land that I should not destroy it..."  We know that God takes no pleasure in the destruction of the wicked, and he will relent if the guilty will repent and call on Him (Genesis 18:22-33; Ezekiel 18:23, 32; Jonah 3:10-4:11; 2 Peter 3:9).  Sodom and Gomorrah were spared for a short time because Abraham interceded for them.  More than once, the nation of Israel was saved because Moses interceded for them.  Nineveh was saved because they repented at the rebuke of the Lord.  And in the single most important act in the history of the universe, Jesus "appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption" (Hebrews 9:11-12).  Once and for all, He stands to intercede for us. And now, as His ambassadors, we are called to stand in the gap before Him that souls would be saved. Ezekiel 22:30 concludes with a sobering statement:  "but I found no one."  Gentlemen, let that never be said of our homes, churches, and our land.
