That You May Know

As I write this, it is the night before Passover.  Tomorrow marks the day that the Israelites would observe the Feast for the first time.  Families would gather around their tables.  They would have lived their entire lives in forced servitude in a foreign land; they knew no other life, but that night would be the last.  The Hebrew Daddies would put the blood of the Passover lamb on the doorposts and lentils of their homes, because God had said:  "Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are.  And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt" (Exodus 12:13), and they believed Him.  Those Daddies trusted the Lord with the lives of their own children, and He was faithful. The Passover would be a sign to us of the salvation that He would provide, once and for all.  His blood covers the hearts of those who have believed Him; we will never perish, and no one can snatch us from His hand (John 10:28).  Because of Jesus, I can stop on my way up to bed, look in on my sleeping children, my firstborn and all the others, thank God for the blood, shut the door, and lay my head down.
