Come to Me

It's so easy to become weighed down by the cares and the worries that we carry.  The weight of the decisions, the expectations, and the outright attacks that are part of the life of a Christian are, let's just say it, too much at times.  And as if that weren't enough, what about my failures, past, present, and potential?  What about the guilt of my sin?  What if any of the above come to bear on my children?  What if, try as I might not to, I do my children harm?  What if I already have?

Isaiah 37:14 and 2 Kings 19:14 are among my favorite verses in the Bible.  When King Hezekiah of Judah received a letter from the King of Assyria, threatening not only him and his children, but the entire kingdom, he had one response.  In one the most beautiful moments in history, the child of God "went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord."

The one God, by whose Word everything exists and is sustained, whose Word gives light, to whom the nations are as a drop in a bucket, waits and watches for us to call upon Him.  He searches for those of us who will set our hearts upon Him, to show Himself strong on our behalf.  He listens for His child who will cast his burden on Him; He cares for his child.  He will never permit the righteous to be moved.  The Lord has spoken.
