The Nations Rage

Today (7-7-17) UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) ruled that Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs belongs to Palestine, not Israel.  The Cave of the Patriarchs is believed to be the burial site for Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and Leah.  It does not take much imagination to figure out what would become of the site in the hands of radical Islamists.  After all, we can see them now all over the Middle East physically destroying every church and every site of Christian or Jewish historical significance that they can. Hebron's history is rich with events of historical importance, and there is one in particular that those who hate the one God would do well to remember and repent, and the child of God would do well to remember and take heart.  Joshua 14 records the account of 85 year-old Caleb approaching Joshua to be blessed as he went and took the hill country of Hebron, which had been promised to Him by God.  The land at that time was inhabited by the Anakim, giants (Numbers 13:28, Deuteronomy 2:21, 9:2).  Caleb took the land and changed its name from Kirjath Arba to Hebron.  (Kirjath Arba was named for "the greatest man among the Anakim [Joshua 14:15].)  The man who stood on the promise of the Lord overtook the giants, and renamed the very symbol of their strength, not because of his military might, but because God had spoken for Hebron.

Every attempt by man to destroy the Word of God has failed and will fail, always.

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, "Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us."  He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.  Then he shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure:  "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.  I will declare the decree:  The Lord has said to me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.  Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.  You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'"  Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth.  Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little.  Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.-Psalm 2.
