Obscure?

Once in one of my English classes, a student quoted the Bible during a class presentation.  Now, I normally love to hear the Bible, but there was one problem.  His quotation was not from the Bible.  I told him so, and he corrected me, in kind of a condescending way, saying that "it's in one of the more obscure books."  (How telling.)  That was three years ago, so I don't remember my exact response, but it was something along the lines of "There shouldn't be any books that are obscure to us."

How many of us view the Bible the way that student did?  How many of us would have to admit that the Bible contains passages or even entire books that are "obscure" to us?  In Deuteronomy 32:46-47 Moses said:  "Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe-all the words of this law.  For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life..."

Jesus taught us that "man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).  We are to hide His Word in our hearts that we may not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11).  His Word is our comfort in our affliction (Psalm 119:50).  His Word is to be our meditation all the day (Psalm 119:97).  His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).  His Word is your life.
