A Fence Post of a Man

Every family needs the man of the house to be stable, dependable, and able to guard his family against deception, leading them straight and true in the knowledge of the Lord.  So many men want to be and do those things for their families, but they don't know how.  They haven't laid the groundwork.  They weren't ready for the responsibilities that come along with being the man of the house.  If that sounds like you, then there is only one thing to do.  We have to get started...right now.

God does not intend for us to live, leading our households, not knowing what He wants for us.  He wants us to grow and be strengthened in Him, "that we may no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness with regard to the scheming of deceit" (Ephesians 4:14).  An unstable hand at the helm is a disaster, and shipwreck is inevitable.  There are always countless voices out there, each one wanting to draw us in.  There are countless philosophies and doctrines that would lead us astray, dragging our families in tow.  After a few years of chasing after religious trends, our families will throw up their hands in frustration and many will walk away entirely from the Lord, because He has been misrepresented to them.

James 1:6 characterizes the man who doubts the truth as being "like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.  For let not that man expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways."
