An Old Fence Post Still Stands

Caleb is famously known for having been one of only two men in the entire Hebrew nation who trusted God to fulfill His Word to them.  The faithless men specifically said that they were afraid of the giants in the land, the Anakim.  We know the rest of that story, how the Lord did not allow anyone who was twenty years or older on that day to cross the Jordan and possess the land...except for Joshua and Caleb.

Forty years later,  Joshua 14:6-15 tells the account of eighty-five year old Caleb coming to Joshua to ask for his blessing as he goes to take his inheritance.  In verse 12 Caleb says to Joshua:  "Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified.  It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said."

Eighty-five year old Caleb took up his sword and went into the hill country of Hebron and took his inheritance from the giants.  Gentlemen,  however old or young we may be we are never too old or too young for the work that God has called us to.  He alone decides when the time is right.  To those who are older than I am, we need you.  Our generatioin has made a grave mistake that has cost lives and is threatening those under our care.  Instead of acknowldging and heeding the wisdom and experience of our fathers, we have mocked, marginalized and even sought to discredit them. There are older and wiser voices now that warn us that our culture is behaving exactly like one that almost destroyed Europe only a few decades ago, and would have if not for the sacrifice of our heroes.  We have not been listening to those who lived through it and recognize it now.  Men, we need "Calebs" of all ages to pick up the Sword of the Spirit and fight for the lives of our children and for those who live where the light of the truth has been pushed out and suppressed.  Our fight is not against flesh and blood but against the work of Satan in the world, to save the lives that he is working overtime to destroy.  As we go and live out the love and mercy of the Lord, pray for the strength of our brothers and sisters all over the world and that lives will be saved.
