In the Morning

I'm not one of those morning people.  I'm just not.  However, most days I get up early anyway.  So do most other working men and women, regardless of our preferred time for rising.  There are times when I get up and the day's shadow looms over me.  There are mornings when I feel overwhelmed by the demands that are waiting impatiently for me, competing for precious time and attention. But, there is another who waits for me.  He has not been sleeping.  He does not stand waiting to pile burdens upon me.  No, He has been the rest for the righteous since the beginning.  "The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; and His song will be with me in the night, a prayer to the God of my life."  (Psalm 42:8)  He waits for me in the morning.  He raises my thoughts and my heart to more than getting by for one more day.

He is the Creator and Sustainer.  He is the one to whom Satan himself answers and gives account.  While the nations are in an uproar, He tells me "I AM."  While the world rages against Him and His people, He walks on the waves and says to me "Come."  He quiets the heart of His child who looks to Him for every need.  Because of Him I can get up at a ridiculous hour to a good morning.  I look back at my bed and I know that because of Him, my good and faithful wife is resting there along with however many of our children have made their way between us while we slept.  I can kiss the sleeping sweetest faces I've ever known, put my hand in my Father's, and go.

"In the morning, O Lord, Thou wilt hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to thee and eagerly watch."-Psalm 5:3
