Like a Man

In chapter 38 of Job, the Lord spoke to Job out of a whirlwind saying:  "Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?  Gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me."  The almighty God told a man to gird up his loins, like a man, and answer Him.  This terrifies me.  When the Lord of the universe, to whom every particle owes its existence, tells you to face Him like a man, what do you do?

Humility is the correct response before God, always.  Humility is like discipline in that to the extent that we apply it to ourselves, it won't have to be applied to us by someone else.  This is also true of The Shawshank Redemption; once you just watch it everyone will get off of your back about it.

Job responded with humility, and in the end he was the one whose prayer the Lord heard.  A man has got to be humble.  Proverbs 16:18 tells us that "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."  There are few things in life more obnoxious than pride.  And there are few things in life as graceful and strong as a man who walks humbly with his God.
