Under His Wings

Matthew 23:37-39 and Luke 13:34-35 record Jesus' heart being broken because of Jerusalem's unwillingness to be gathered to Him, "as a hen gathers her brood under her wings."  I have often written here about how much I love it when my kids want to do what I'm doing or want me to hold them.  I came home from work three days ago and when my eight month-old saw me he smiled and said "da-da-da".  I'm still not over that yet. Our Father wants us to understand that he sees us the same way.  He delights in us (Proverbs 8:31).  He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).  He wants us to know that we are His and that His desire is for us (Song of Solomon 7:10).  God loves to gather us under His wings.  Let Him shelter you there.  Are you worn out?  Are you confused?  Are you carrying burdens that we were never intended to bear?  Your guilt has not disqualified you from His love.  (If it could, none of us would have any hope.)  Bring your burdens, your joys, the things that terrify you and the innumerable little worries that will plague our lives given the chance; bring them all to the one God.  Enjoy being the loved child of God that He has declared you to be.  He said it, so it is.
