Forever

Song of Solomon 7:10 says "I am my beloved's and his desire is for me."  That word desire in the Hebrew means to reach for and is derived from a word that means to run after.  One purpose of Song of Solomon is to teach us about God's love for the church, His people.  This verse is spoken by the "beloved", in essence us.  The Lord wants us to have perfect peace in the knowledge that we are His.  We belong to the almighty God, and His desire is for us.

Verses 6 and 7 say "Put me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm.  For love is as strong as death, jealousy is as severe as Sheol; its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord.  Many waters cannot quench love, nor will rivers overflow it; if a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, it would be utterly despised."  The Lord seals us over His heart and on His arm.  We are immovably fixed over the innermost part of God.  We are also permanently set visibly on His arm.  The Lord speaks in very definite and awesome terms about how fiercely He loves us.  His love for His people will not be quenched.  His love for us transcends any comparatively vile worldly assignment of value.

Because we know this love and He lives in us, we must love this way.  My wife needs to know that she has been placed by the Lord Himself as a seal over my heart.  My kids need to know that their mother is a seal on my arm.  They need to know that when I go out to work that once I have done my work as unto the Lord, there is only one place that I want to be.  They need to know that no matter what temptations may confront their daddy that he knows the very flame of the Lord and that he will love them and their mother in the same way.  The prospect that we might ever leave for greener pasture should never even enter the minds of our families.  We have been sealed.
