Teach them to your Children

In several places the Bible teaches that there will be societal movements away from the one God.  Psalm 2:2-3 reads:  "The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed saying, 'Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.'"  Romans chapter one outlines more specifically how man rejects the knowledge of the truth.  2 Peter 3:5 speaks of people who "willfully forget" what the Lord has done. Our children don't have to fall prey to the deceptions of the Devil, though.  And, it won't be because we were clever enough, or loud enough, or because of our might.  We can help our children by saying "yes" when God speaks.  Deuteronomy 6:6-9 says:  "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart; you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Don't miss the beginning of that passage.  Not only do we have to teach God's words diligently to our children, but they must be in our hearts as well.  Our teachings are not only meaningless, but are actually counterproductive if they are not the overflow of the Word of God in our own hearts that we live by.  Be a man who is planted and set by the Lord Himself, deep in His Word.  Be a man whose family can believe him when he teaches them what God has said.

"Cross over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and each one of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, 'What do these stones mean to you?' Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord: when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.  And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever."-Joshua 4:5-7
