The Promise

I've always loved reading and re-reading C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, ever since the first time our teacher read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe to us in the 5th grade (Thank you, Mrs. Commander).  I read them with my kids now.  Such is the legacy of a faithful teacher.  I particularly love how in the darkest of moments, when the band of heroes is running on faith's faintest fumes, the words of Aslan (the symbolic Jesus figure) come to their minds. Psalm 119:105 reads:  "Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path."  We have been commanded to know the Word of God and to teach it diligently to our children.  This command, like all of the Lord's commands, is for our good.  When the storm rages and the floodwaters rise (and they will), will you be ready?  Will the people you love the most be ready?  Our most important job all to often goes neglected.  Not in my house, and not in yours.

When things don't look like we think they should, do your children have a fixed point to navigate by, in the immovable truth of the Word of the Lord?  Pilgrims travelling through this world have sailed safely home by God's timeless Word since the beginning, and they always will.  When all else fails, and I have been guilty of trying all else, the truth is still true.
